活動名稱:「國際版畫藝術大師講座--數位時代版印藝術的思維」
活動目的:為使本校教師對國際版畫藝術創作與交流趨勢更加瞭解,是未來台灣版印藝術朝向國際化發展的重要方向。此次邀請國際版畫美國藝術家Karen D. Beckwith,與談個人創作經驗,暢談如何掌握版印創作流程、了解科學潮流下的版畫技術之解像力和色彩差異、清楚明白手工版印和數位輸出處理間主從關係等技術,提升版印專業技巧,將版印融入當代創意生活,建立版畫創造新觀念。

藝術家、版畫家和印刷大師
凱倫貝克維斯 (Karen Beckwith) 從小就確信自己需要成為藝術家,1987 年畢業於克利夫蘭藝術學院,獲得版畫和插畫學士學位。 1998 年,她成為成功完成羅望子學院印刷大師獎學金的傑出版畫師群體中的一員。

作為一名印刷大師,凱倫與知名藝術家合作,作為專業藝術家,她的個人藝術作品已在美國和國際各地展出。凱倫的精美藝術版畫位於美國各地著名的私人和企業藝術收藏中

凱倫(Karen)三十多年來一直致力於美術版畫的創作,今天,就像她小時候一樣,堅信藝術家的生活是她唯一的生活!目前,凱倫專注於俄亥俄州克利夫蘭的展覽、委託和發展版畫社區 - 她在那裡擁有全職版畫設施K2 ART STUDIO。


KAREN D. BECKWITH
Artist, Printmaker & Master Printer

Certain she needed to be an artist from the time she was a small child, Karen Beckwith graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 1987 with a B.F.A in Printmaking and Illustration. In 1998 she became part of a premier group of printmakers who have successfully completed Tamarind Institute’s Master Printer Fellowship.

As a Master Printer Karen has worked collaboratively with well known artists, and as a Professional Artist her personal body of artistic work has been exhibited across the United States and Internationally. Karen’s fine art prints are located in prominent private and corporate art collections throughout the U.S.

Karen has been dedicated to the creation of fine art prints for over thirty years and is as convinced today, as she was when she was a little girl, that a life as an artist is the only life for her! Currently Karen is focused on exhibitions, commissions and developing a printmaking community in Cleveland, Ohio - where she maintains a full time printmaking facility, K2 ART STUDIO.

視覺說故事者

“我認為自己是一名視覺考古學家。我沉浸在特定地點的景觀中,深入研究人們生活的遺跡和痕跡。無論是在城市或鄉村環境、荒涼的空間或日益惡化的結構中,我都會努力探索每件作品,揭示一個地方的靈魂。透過這種探索,我發掘了靈感,並將其轉化為迷人的多層印刷品和拼貼。

我透過錯綜複雜的分層城市景觀來描繪社區的歷史,並透過精心挑選的日常生活遺跡暗示人類活動。透過使用豐富、微妙的色彩和磨損表面的描繪,我傳達了看不見的個體的情緒和精神。這些景觀中的居民可能並不實際存在,但他們的本質滲透到每一層。

透過將可辨識的建築、象徵性物件和令人回味的氛圍交織在一起,我創造了視覺敘事,審視我們存在的本質。每件作品都講述了一個獨特的故事,邀請觀眾思考塑造我們生活的複雜性和情感。我努力闡明我們的相似之處。我希望這些令人回味的視覺故事能夠引起觀眾的共鳴,激發人們的聯繫感、內省感,並重新欣賞我們共同的人類經歷。

VISUAL STORYTELLER
“I think of myself as a visual archaeologist. Immersing myself in site-specific landscapes, I delve into remnants and traces of people's lives. Whether in urban or rural environments, desolate spaces or deteriorating structures, I approach each piece striving to uncover the soul of a place. Through this exploration I unearth inspiration, which I transform into captivating multi-layered prints and collages.

I portray a neighborhood's history by intricately layering cityscapes, and hint at human activity through carefully chosen remnants of daily life. Through the use of rich, subtle colors and the depiction of worn-out surfaces, I convey the mood and spirit of unseen individuals. The inhabitants of these landscapes may not be physically present yet their essence permeates every layer.

By interweaving recognizable buildings, symbolic objects, and evocative atmospheres, I create visual narratives that scrutinize the very nature of our existence. Each piece tells a unique story, inviting viewers to contemplate the complexities and emotions that shape our lives. I strive to illuminate our similarities. It is my hope that these evocative visual stories will resonate with viewers, sparking a sense of connection, introspection, and a renewed appreciation for the tapestry of our shared human experience.”

印章標記

Karen 於 1998 年成功完成了羅望子學院 著名且嚴格的專業認證,成為一名註冊印刷大師。

當獲得主印刷商的地位時,印刷商會設計一個印章,將其壓印到他們的印刷品上,從而證明版本並簽署他們的作品。凱倫的印記描繪了她創造的熊符號,作為自我反思,因其平靜、安靜、穩定的力量。

國際上只有一百多台擁有註冊羅望子印章標記的主印刷商。

CHOP MARK
Karen successfully completed the TAMARIND INSTITUTE’S renowned and rigorous professional certification fellowship to become a registered Master Printer in 1998. This requires demonstrating technical knowledge and aesthetic experience of the highest caliber, as well as mastering the complicated skill set necessary to successfully guide professional artistic collaborations.

When the status of Master Printer is awarded, the printer designs a stamp that will be embossed onto their prints, thereby certifying an edition and signing their work. Karen’s Chop Mark portrays a bear symbol which she created, as a self reflection, for its calm, quiet, stable strength.

There are only a little over a hundred Master Printers with registered Tamarind Chop Marks internationally.
